BC Hydro announces finalists for Power Smart Excellence Awards
VANCOUVER – BC Hydro has announced 29 finalists for the 2009 Power Smart Excellence Awards. The annual awards recognize energy conservation leadership from organizations in the commercial, government, industrial and retail sectors in B.C. “Each year we see a higher level of enthusiasm among organizations that are nominated, making the decisions for our judging panel even more challenging,” said Lisa Coltart, executive director of Power Smart and Customer Care for BC Hydro. “I congratulate every award finalist and nominee for their commitment to energy conservation and for playing a role in helping our province become electricity self sufficient.”
A diverse group of organizations were chosen as finalists, including large commercial organizations such as TELUS and Manulife Financial, which were named finalists in the Energy Conservation Commitment and Workplace Conservation Leadership categories, respectively.
Government and institutional finalists include the Contract Management Office of the Revenue Solutions Division of the Ministry of Finance in the Workplace Conservation Leadership category, and the University of British Columbia, named a finalist for the New Technology of the Year Award. AMEC Americas Limited and Custom Dry Kiln Co. Ltd., and Streetlight Intelligence Inc. are the two commercial organizations that rounded out the finalists for the New Technology of the Year Award. Non-profit and healthcare sector finalists include BC Housing and BC Non-Profit Housing Association, and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, which were chosen as finalists for the Conservation Partner of the Year and Workplace Conservation Leadership Awards, respectively. The finalists were selected by a panel of judges that reviewed nominations submitted by both B.C. businesses and BC Hydro employees. The 2009 Power Smart Excellence Award recipients will be announced on May 26 at a ceremony in Vancouver. Now in its seventh year, the Power Smart Excellence Awards showcase the best energy efficiency and conservation practices among BC Hydro customers. The awards strive to inspire and enable B.C. businesses to participate in and implement their own conservation programs that reduce energy use.
